The old water palace at Ujung was destroyed by the volcano. This is the new and rather crappy replacement.

Tama Tirtagangga. this is the real and old original thing. A lovely place. I stayed here once many years ago on my very first trip to Indonesia.

27 Jul - shopping in Ubud

We stroll up to town to look in the shops.

Down to Monkey Forest Road, then back up the hill.

We stop for a fruit juice at a cafe with a view.

Home to Kakiang Bungalow for a wash.

We have to move rooms to 107. This place is starting to fall to bits.
We have breakfast in the hotel bakery again.

We walk up the road past Pundi Pundi Cafe, but go to Lada Warung for a very nice lunch.

We walk back down Jalan Bisma and watch the ducks in the fields.

Off to Pizza Bagus for diner, then back down to that warung for pisang goreng.

25 July - rest day at the hotel Kakiang Bungalow, Ubud. Treatment at the Ubud Wellness Spa.

25 July - rest day at the hotel, Kakiang Bungalow, Ubud.

We have breakfast in the bakery attached to the hotel - pancakes.

We stroll down the hill and find a real old-school warung selling pisang goreng - banana fritters - sliced very thin and just dusted with flour. 5 pieces for 2000 Rupiah.

We go the Ubud Wellness Spa on Jalan Raya Pengosekan for a 4 hour treatment and enjoy it immensely.

24 July - a walk in the Monkey Forest

We have breakfast in the bakery at the front of the Kakiang Bungalow.

We go for a walk but don't make it too far before we reach the Monkey Forest. We decide to go in.

We detour up a dirt road to Jalan Bisma. We walk through the most picturesque rice fields.

We stop at a small roadside cafe for a drink, in the middle on nowhere, near Nick's Hidden Hotel.

Stopped again at Uma Sari for a drink. A lovely place - must stay there some day.

After a bit more of a walk along the ridge, we stop at Warung Ibu Arini for a very tasty and very cheap lunch. We watch lots of school kids drop in for a snack.

Stopped for a look in a temple, Pura Lukisan.

Walked to the Bridge Cafe for banana fritters and coffee.

Home for a wash.
